10 Everyday Habits That Quietly Bolster Your Health, Supported by Scientific Evidence

It’s important to integrate certain practices into your daily routine to improve your well-being. Let’s look into ten scientifically-backed practices that should be part of your daily life.

Get in Some Exercise

“I find doing physical activity has helped me build discipline and a constant routine in my life; go out and do something. Go for a walk, the gym, a bike ride, run errands, do something. It keeps your mind going, and then you hopefully aren’t thinking as much.”

When you exercise, you release dopamine, noradrenaline, and serotonin. All of which make you feel fine after a workout.

Time for a Wash

Washing your face. It’s a game-changer in the mornings! Slows down wrinkles/age lines, keeps your skin looking fresh, and all around feels great to splash cold water on your face to help wake up/get eye crusties off.”

Keep your face youthful and gorgeous with a daily wash (using a cleanser or exfoliant). It’s also a great way to wake yourself up in the morning.

Be an Early Bird

“I woke up earlier, let’s say 40 minutes earlier than my family members. Make a coffee, put on headphones, good music, drink coffee…and this 40mins is like heaven. And after this, every day is perfect.”

Setting aside time in the morning when you enjoy the silence and peace sets you up for a more productive day. It allows you to think more clearly as your mind is clogged with tiredness and fatigue.

Regular Sleep Time

What’s worked for me in the past is a consistent sleep schedule. It’s easy to sleep in or stay up late but I felt that once I got into the habit of going to bed at around the same time and waking up at a similar time did wonders!”

Sticking to a regular sleep routine reduces the risk of getting heart issues, and you also get sick less often. On a mental health level, you experience less stress, and your mood improves. Concentration levels increase. So, make sure you stick to your schedule!

Keep Your Place Clean

“Keep the common space tidy so that you don’t have to worry about people turning up. Straighten the bed, and put last night’s clothes in the hamper. Wash the dishes so you don’t have to struggle to find a cup for your first coffee. Take the garbage out instead of leaving a tower of rubbish on top of the bin and only take it out when it falls over. Keep some wipes handy to clean the bench tops.”

Thank You, Life!

“Highly recommend starting the day off with writing down three things you’re grateful for. Keep a gratitude journal. It takes like 2 minutes and starts your day off on a trajectory for more goodness to come your way. Do it before you grab your cell phone in the morning!!”

Showing appreciation for the good things in your life, no matter how small, increases your positivity. It also builds up your emotional resilience.

What Great Teeth You Have

“Flossing! I just got my first cavity, and it was between two teeth. I brush twice a day religiously, but if I had just added flossing long enough to make it a habit, I might’ve never had a cavity. Hopefully, I’ll never have one again.”

Reducing cavities is one benefit of flossing. By giving your teeth a daily floss, you also reduce gum irritation and plaque buildup.

A Nightly Brain Dump

“I do a little recap on my feelings and my day before I go to bed, but before I do my skincare, so I’m actually not exhausted. I have a little prompt I lightly follow that I made for me and what worked for me & it’s really helped me handle my emotions. It’s like I’m doing a little clean on my brain and feelers before I go to bed so the next day- they don’t stick around as much.”

Writing down your thoughts and feelings before going to bed allows them to pour from your brain and onto paper. That way, you have dumped them from your system. The result is a better night’s sleep.

Meditation Time

“Meditation is a great way to start the day, and it increases the ability to remember.”

Helping you not forget things is just one of the many benefits of meditation. It makes you more compassionate and patient, which enhances relationships. You also have greater peace and calmness within yourself.

Morning Water

“Drink a cup of water every morning. At least 8oz. It will change your life.”

Having water in the morning rehydrates your body (we sweat and drool as we sleep, which equates to water escaping our system). Another benefit is it lowers the number of calories you absorb every day. So, start your day off with a glass of water.
